Early Fall at Old Hill Village
September 2015

Judy and I rode our bikes in Old Hill Village today. It was absolutely beautiful. 75F and a clear sky.
I worked Wales, France, Italy, Croatia and the Netherlands plus about a dozen states in the CWT sprint.

We started out at Needle Shop Brook and rode south toward Franklin. We stopped at the old bridge
abutment on the Pemigewasset River to enjoy the scenery.

The signs of early fall are clear. The poison ivy is all turning yellow. Most of the asters and
golden rod are gone and an early batch of dried leaves covers parts of the trail. After a couple
of miles we stopped at an old butternut tree where I have operated before. I tossed a line over
a branch and pulled up the Par Endfedz 3-band antenna. It's about 65 feet long.

I sat right down at the edge of the old road. I was running 3 watts with the
KD1JV Mountain Topper sitting in my lap. It's powered by 8 AA solar
charged cells.

20 meters was in good shape. I worked 8 stations there and then
switched to 40 meters where I worked 7 more. The exchange for
the CWT sprint is name and member number. Here's my log:

In just another week hunters will take over this area. The bird season in
New Hampshire starts on October 1.
