Hike to Knox Mountain
September 2017

Judy and I hiked to the Knox Mountain cabin this afternoon. It was
a perfect early fall day. I worked Hungary, Bulgaria and made a
2-way QRP contact with NR8M in Ohio.

We started hiking from Knox Mountain Road around 2:30 pm and
arrived at the cabin at 3:00. It was cool... barely 60, but sunny. Wild
flowers were everywhere. Closed Gentian was blooming along the
shore.

I tossed a line over a cherry tree between the two cabins and sat down on
the grass in the sun with the KX3.

I tuned across 20 meters and it was dead... so I went to 40.  Bob, NR8M in Ohio was just finishing up a
QSO. I called him.  He gave me a 569. He was 579. We had a nice chat. He was running a YouKits EK1C
at 4W. I was his second QSO. Pretty neat 2-way QRP contact. I switched to 20 meters.

There were only a few signals on 20... none of them very strong. But I made a call to LZ1MS in
Bulgaria anyway. To my surprise he answered and he gave me a 449. Encouraged I tuned up the
band a bit. There was HA8GZ in Hungary calling CQ. John and I exchanged quick 599s, and I
packed up for the hike back.
