Worked All Europe from the Pemi

Late this afternoon I rode my bicycle down
to the Pemigewasset River where I
operated the Worked All Europe contest
for a while. Conditions were great and
I had contacts with Serbia, Germany, Russia.
Bosnia, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Estonia
and Croatia.

The Pemi starts in New Hampshire's White Mountains
and flows through the foothills where it merges
with the Winnipesaukee to form the Merrimack River.
Its shores form some of the most glorious and
untouched land in New England. It's also one
of the nicest places in the world to set up a small
radio station.

Not far from the water's edge, I throw my line
over the 40 foot branch of an old oak tree and pull
up a 30 foot antenna wire. I use the KD1JV ATS-4
on 20 meters and an Elecraft T-1tuner. I'm running
about 3 watts. I operate for 20 minutes and make
13 QSOs. Stations are working the WAE  contest
and the exchange is rapid. Here's my log:

There's something thrilling about pulling some
light gear out of pack in the middle of nowhere
and talking around the world with low power.
No matter how often I do it, I still look forward
to the next magic-filled radio outing.
